From a domain name to a working website with e-mail: this guide shows the order of the steps and links to the article for each one.
1. A domain name
Your website needs an address, for example mallabakery.co.za.
- No domain yet: search for one and register it – see Search for a domain and register it. You can also add it in the same order as your hosting.
- You already have a domain with another provider: you can keep it there and point it to us with our nameservers – see Use a domain you have with another provider – or move it to us with Transfer a domain to DomainsOnline.
2. A hosting plan
The hosting plan is the space on our server for your website files and your e-mail.
- Choose a plan: Which hosting plan suits me?
- Order it: Order web hosting step by step or Order WordPress hosting.
- Pay the invoice with PayFast. We set up your hosting once the payment has arrived and send you an e-mail with your cPanel details – see After your order: what happens next.
3. Build the website
You manage your website in cPanel. Open it from the client area with one click – see Log in to cPanel from the client area. Then choose one way to build your site:
- WordPress – for most business websites and blogs: Install WordPress with Softaculous.
- Sitejet Builder – design pages by drag and drop: Build a website with Sitejet Builder.
- Your own files – if you or your web designer already have the website: Upload files with File Manager or Create an FTP account and connect with FileZilla.
4. E-mail on your domain
Create addresses such as info@ or your own name on your domain – see Create an e-mail account – and set them up on your phone and computer with E-mail settings for your devices (IMAP, SMTP, ports).
5. A secure https:// address
Your site gets a free SSL certificate in cPanel – see Free SSL certificate (AutoSSL). Then make sure visitors always land on the secure address: Always open your site with https://.
